Científics participants: Dr. Emili Elizalde (CSIC – Física Teòrica), Dr. José Ignacio Latorre (UB – Física Teòrica), Dr. Josep Clotet (UIC – Bioquímica), Dr. Jordi Rodón (Hospital Vall d’Hebron – Oncologia).

La taula rodona està adreçada al públic en general amb la intenció de divulgar la quotidianitat dels científics. Aquesta activitat espera poder despertar interès en joves que es plantegen la ciència com a vocació professional.

Els científics participants representen un ventall divers de dedicacions científiques, comprenent una pluralitat de metodologies i camps de recerca.

Premiat recentment com a Most Valued Reviewer per la prestigiosa revista Annals of Physics (l’editor de la qual és Frank Wilczek, Premi Nobel de Física), és Llicenciat en Física, Llicenciat en Matemàtiques i Doctor en Física per la Universitat de Barcelona, amb Premis Extraordinaris. Va fer estudis i recerca post-doctorals a les Universitats d’Hamburg i de Berlin, finançat per la Fundació Alexander von Humboldt, així com a les universitats d’Hiroshima, Osaka i KEK del Japó, finançat per la Fundació japonesa SEP. Va ser Professor de la Universitat de Barcelona i ara es Professor d’Investigació del CSIC a l’Institut de Ciències de l’Espai-IEEC. Professor Honoris Causa per la Universitat TSPU de Tomsk (Rússia) i Medalla d’Or de la mateixa Universitat. Recentment ha estat elegit membre de la prestigiosa “Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics”.

Reconegut especialista a nivell internacional en funcions zeta i les seves aplicacions a la física teòrica i la cosmologia, ha publicat ultra 300 articles de recerca i una desena de llibres a diverses editorials, com Springer i World Scientific. Algunes d’aquestes obres estan entre les més citades a ISI/SCI en els seus camps. És el físic-matemàtic català de més repercusió internacional, d’acord amb els reports de l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans. Es membre de l’Institute of Physics de la GB. Editor en Cap de dues revistes internacionals (“Galaxies” i “Frontiers in Mathematical Physics”) i membre dels comitès editorials de dotze més. Secretari General de l’Associació Humboldt España, ha estat distingit pels responsables del Portal Universia “El árbol de las matemáticas” amb la publicació del seu perfil en aquesta web, on es recullen els mes il·lustres matemàtics espanyols i llatinoamericans en actiu.

MARÍA T. SOTO-SANFIEL

Maria T. Soto-Sanfiel

She is an Associate Professor at the Audiovisual Communication and Advertising Department at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB, Barcelona, Spain). She is researcher linked to the Center for Ambience Intelligence and Accessibility of Catalonia (CAIAC -UAB). Since 2009, Maite directs inscience.tv (http://inscience.tv) an IP television station for the dissemination of high advanced science. Also, from 2012, she also directs, together with JI Latorre, c-radio.org (http://c-radio.org), an IP experimental radio that offers programs of all genres on scientific knowledge to different audiences.

Maite holds a PhD in Audiovisual Communication (UAB). She is Magister in Interactive Communication (Telecommunications and Multimedia) (UAB), and Magister in New Audiovisual Technologies and Advertising (UAB). Also, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communications (Advertising and Public Relations) (UCAB), recognized as a Bachelor’s degree in Information Sciences (Journalism) (UAB).

As a researcher, she has been part of some investigation projects funded by public and private entities through competitive calls and contracts. Until 2015, Maite has participated in five long term projects of the R+D National Research Plan of Spain. She has also worked and directed research projects funded by the Catalonian Government. Currently (January 2016), she directs a research project titled “Artistic, productive, organizational and marketing conceptions about Science in Spanish TV”, funded by the FECYT-Spain. Furthermore, she is the responsible of research of the FRED at School project, funded by the European Union. Also, she is part of the project HBB4ALL of the European Commission, directed by Dr. Pilar Orero.  She designed and coordinated an international Master Program funded by the Media Program (European Union). In 2004, she received the National Research Award on Mass Communication by the Catalonian Government.

The main research interests of Maite are linked to popular Science, reception of media message (from a psychological point of view), Interactive TV, and voice and audio reception.

Moreover, she has published many research articles in scientific journals and academic book chapters. Indeed, she has been guest-editor, together with Peter Vorderer, of a special issue of the Journal of Media Psychology and of the International Journal of Arts and Technology. She serves as reviewer of journals such as New Media & Society, Communication & Society, International Journal of Communication, Psychology of Music, International Journal of Arts and Technology, among others.

Maite has been visiting researcher at the Center of Advanced Media Research (Free University Amsterdam, The Netherlands), at the Social Psychology Department (University of Toronto at Scarboroug, Canada), at the Asian Communication Research Center (Nyanyang Technological University, Singapore) and at the Communication and New Media Department (National University of Singapore, Singapore). Recently she has been visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2010, she received the research fellowship award by the ACRC of Singapore.

Maite has also worked as TV Journalist and Producer (in Venezuela and Spain) since she was 17 years old.  In 2010, she directed the TV documentary “Extreme universe”, which was awarded as the best scientific audiovisual program in the CPAN Outreach 2010 contest (National Center for Particle Physics, Astro particle and Nuclears / Consolider -Ingenio 2010). The documentary was broadcasted in National, Regional and Local Spanish Public Televisions and selected by the Spanish Ministry of Education to be shown in all Spanish schools. Furthermore, as a director, she has co-directed, together with Oscar Cusó, the TV documentary: “That’s the story. Nobel Prize awarded Roy J. Glauber remembers the Manhattan Project”. Dr. Glauber was one of the youngest scientific enrolled to work in the making of the Atomic Bomb, and the only one who is still alive. The documentary has been presented at the Berlinale Film Market and at the Cannes TV Festival, and it’e been distributed by Twelve Oaks. It has been recently screened in Spanish and Catalonian TV and in many scientific institutions through the world.

From 1995, Maite lectures on different topics related to the creation and perception of audiovisual messages (radio, television, and internet) in the three Bachelor’s degrees offered at the School of Communication of the UAB: Audiovisual Communication, Journalism and Advertising and Public Relationships. She teaches also in Master’s programs and PhD Courses. She has organized various activities to disseminate knowledge. For instance, Maite has been the executive producer of the “Möbius Barcelona Multimedia Prize” that awarded multimedia projects in Art, Science and Education (1995-2010). She has also been director of “iEnter. International workshop on Interactive entertainment” (2008), and she has been co -director, together with Peter Vorderer, of the international workshop “Entertainment = Emotion” (2011).

She has been member of the Teatro UCAB (Catholic Andres Bello University theater group) and founder member of AgoTeatro, a professional group that emerged from the first one. She performed as actress and director. She toured for all Venezuela as part of the former.

Doctor en Biologia Molecular per la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Ha liderat nombrosos projectes de recerca, compta amb nombroses publicacions en revistes de primera línia d’abast internacional i actualment és president de la Societat Catalana de Biologia (filial de l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans – IEC).

Dr. JORDI RODON – Institut d’Oncologia de l’Hospital de la Vall d’Hebron – Professor Dr., Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC)

Llicenciat en Medicina i Cirurgia per la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona al 2005, ha centrat la seva recerca en el desenvolupament de medicaments per al tractament del càncer. És especialista en oncologia mèdica i doctor del Departament d’Oncologia de l’Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron. Coordinador del programa de tumors en el SNC, i professor adjunt d’oncologia a la Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.

És membre actiu de la Societat Europea d’Oncologia Mèdica (ESMO), de la Societat Americana d’Oncologia Clínica (ASCO) i de l’Associació Americana per a la Recerca del Càncer (AACR). Actualment forma part de l’equip de recerca del VHIO (Vall Hebron Institute of Oncology) i n’és el representant al Consorci WIN —Worldwide Innovative Networking— sobre medicina oncològica personalitzada.
